Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaker. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in popular media. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals on the internet. A graduate in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. When she was a student at the university she became concerned about issues related to gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. The harassment didn't dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women in pop cultural narratives.
